Open Letter from Conor O'Neill:
You may have seen that the MashupCamp guys have postponed. They did a terrible job of communicating to the development community here so I am not surprised.
We're wondering if you guys would be up for a late-night CodeJam starting maybe 5pm on Wed 12th September and running until everyone falls down asleep?
Had a few simple ideas:
Build a Facebook App
Or Web2Ireland mini Social Network.
Or a Code-Off: Django/TG/Pylons vs Ruby vs .Net to build X
Or a competition
Or a even a mini MashupCamp
If ye could drum up enough interest I could look into sponsorship for prizes etc?
Ditto re a venue. With a decent crew I think we could get someone to host it. I could even see if EI would like to be involved from a branding perspective.
What do you think?
Conor
What about September?: Conor O'Neill (LouderVoice, Blognation Ireland) is doing a piece on events in September and would like to include DublinCodeJam.
These are the events we are currently aware of for September:
10th-14th - Web2Ireland Week with MashupCamp, MashupUni, PaddysValley Meetup, DemoBar/FOWA and DOCC
22nd - BarCampGalway
29th - PodCamp Kilkenny
Perhaps Web2Ireland week would be a good opportunity to promote the event and attract interested people. How to best capitalise on that?
Exoftware have offered use of their offices in Guinness Enterprise Centre on a weekend for the event.
Open to suggestions of other locations and they don't need to be in Dublin.
Location Requirements
If everyone is working on same project we need to agree on a few basics for software stack for consistency. Here's a start
This could be easier said than done, as people from more than one language community
have been invited, it might be easier to split the app up into frontend / backend teams , and
or multiple services.
Okay, I've reorged the above. Those for other communities should add the basics. These are just the raw materials. We should avoid the day turning into an exercise of getting environments running, rather than coding.
